Specs of the Nissan Maxima

The japanese vehicle manufacturer needed to produce a more upscale version of the already famous Nissan Bluebird.  This variation became the Nissan Maxima, that has been promoted since it first came out as a’four-door sports car.’ This line of mid to full-size autos was introduced to the general public in 1976, and has proven itself to be one of Nissan’s more durable auto lines.  The 1st Maximas were imported from Japan, as they were first made in a plant in Oppama, Japan.  This continued till 2004, when new Maximas for the north american markets have also been assembled in the Nissan’s Tennessee plant in Smyrna.  In other markets outside North America, the Maxima is being called the Nissan Cefiro or Nissan Laurel.  The Maxima, as mentioned earlier started as a more upper-end version of the Bluebird in 1976.  It was also then called the Datsun 810, available in a 2-door coupe and a 4-door sedan and station wagon.

When the 1st generation of true Maximas was slipped off the production line, it was for the 1981 model year.  The 2-door coupe style was removed and only the 4-door styles were retained.  Two engines were the options for the first generation Maxima – a 2.4 L L24E I6 and a 2.8 L Diesel LD28 I6 .  2 transmissions were also available – either a 5-speed automatic or a 5 speed manual .  The second generation Maxima was manufactured from 1985 to 1988 with a 3.0 L VG30E V6 engine with 157 hp power.  Transmission was either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic .  The 3rd generation of Maximas, available from 1989 to 1994, featured either a 3.0 L VG30E V6 or a 3.0 L VE30DE V6 engine.

The 4th generation was made from 1995 to 1999, with only a 4-door sedan body style and a 3.0 L VQ30DE V6 engine.  The 5th generation, to usher in a new century, introduced plenty of changes, from having 3.5 L DE engine to having either 4-speed automated, 5 speed manual, or 6-speed manual transmissions.  The 6th generation of Maximas, available from 2004 to 2008, only introduced cultured changes, with the auto being taller, wider and longer.  The current Maximas available are the 7th generation with a 3.5 L V6 engine.  It was introduced at the New York global Auto show in 2008.
